Royal Varuna Yacht Club

A dinghy club with a royal name

Founded in 1967 by Thai and western sailors answering a notice in the Bangkok Post, the club received Royal Patronage from King Bhumibol Adulyadej, himself a champion dinghy sailor. Varuna, "the god who knows the pathway of the wind", gave the club its name.

Today some 500 members sail a vast array of mono and multi hulls and Optimist dinghies from our club-house on Pratamnak, facing the western sunsets. The club runs a year-round racing programme, RYA-recognised training for juniors and seniors, and has hosted world, regional and national championships, from the Optimist and Fireball Worlds to the OK Dinghy and Dart Worlds.

Alongside the sailing, Varuna is a full-service facility with seaside accommodation, bars, an international kitchen and a yacht maintenance facility.
